In 1955, the publication of the album “Un Paese”, with photographs by Paul Strand and a manifesto by Zavattini, marked a decisive step in the history of photographic publishing. This event preceded by three years the release of Robert Frank’s “The Americans”.

“Let’s look together at the photographs,” writes Zavattini, “under which we can read the confidences of my compatriots. The words are essentially theirs, for I have almost never betrayed their spirit. And those you are about to see, and read, we didn’t choose them because they had something to say, we now know that everyone has something to say, so I would have liked to interview at least a thousand of them, to make a big book out of them, giving a page to each Lucchese. hese. It’s just a question of good will, or else someone else will do it, and in a way that I hope will be deeper and more complete, from any of the places inhabited in Italy”.

In a remarkable article, Maria Antonella Pelizzari analyzes the fate of this daring and long-lasting publication*. The first Italian version of the book was too expensive, limiting its distribution to its intended audience. As for the follow-up to the initiative, artists Beringo Gardin and Stephen Shore did return to the small Po town of Luzzara, but few photographers interviewed their fellow citizens in other towns on the peninsula.

But now, a photographer from Ancona has modestly accepted the invitation extended 70 years ago. You are invited to discover his work and his new publication. He is the winner of the La Muta prize.

The second winner of the La Muta competition presents a very different approach, more akin to art brut and naive art. The artist meticulously composes arrangements with small cakes and dry pasta, then photographs these compositions against colorful backgrounds. This reminds us that the vernissage will include a pleasant buffet.
