Ferragosto is a public holiday “celebrated on 15 August in all of Italy. It originated from Feriae Augusti, the festival of emperor Augustus, who proclaimed in August a day of rest after the weeks of hard work of the agricultural sector. It became a custom for the workers to wish their employers “buon ferragosto” and they would receve a monetary bonus. Compaiono ad un tratto le biciclette, compaiono ad un tratto le insegne: ma soprattutto … improvvisamente, ecco le belle donne, già a Pescara, e poi, trionfanti, a San Benedetto, a Falconara, a Senigallia… Sulla spiaggia di Senigallia … sotto gli ombrelloni sono adunati insieme gli ospiti degli stessi villini novecento, in discussioni che non tradiscono uno solo dei luoghi comuni dell’istituzione linguistica borghese: e, per questo, conservano a ognuno il suo ambito mistero. Ecco il professionista brizzolato ma ancora sportivo; ecco la signora vedova, con un enorme, straordinario turbante giallo, e un accappatoio giallo tirato su come una tunica: va immobile ad armeggiare con la sdraia, patita, misteriosa, scostante e perduta come una Marlene Dietrich. Dai megafoni della grande spiaggia fitta di capanni e ombrelloni, escono scandite le note di un tango arcaico.Il giallo del turbante della signora matura e misteriosa, è giallo banana… Mi distendo al sole, visto che sono bianco come uno yogurt, dopo tanto girare per le spiagge. Nell’intontimento dell’odiosa bisogna estiva, brusisce intorno a me l’intera spiaggia, col tiepido rumore della risacca. Afferro frasi isolate, punte espressive. Ecco da un ombrellone qui accanto un accurato “Buon pranzo!”. È una voce fiacca di giovanotto, che dopo un po’ però risuona di nuovo con “Il mio sesto senso…”, e una voce trionfante di signora: “gli zoccoli… . Ma più in là, un’altra voce si alta a ricoprire le altre, perentoria: “Enrico, non andare a bagnarti. Enrico!”. Poi da un lungo chiacchiericcio di ragazze diciottenni, studentesse di magistrali e di licei dei dintorni, si alza, definitiva, la clausola: “Non è bello ciò che è bello, ma è bello ciò che piace!”.
