Matzner win a silver medal that year: “Im Vereinsjahre 1874 Herrn Carl Matzner in Wien, für die Herstellung von Vergrößerungen auf Albuminpapier mittelst Hervorrufung, die silberne Medaille.” (Mr. Carl Matzner in Vienna, the silver medal, for the production of enlargements on albumin paper).

Matzner is also the inventor of the “Stephanie-vignetten”, decorative glass frames for portraits, thanks to a patent received in 1884.
